Today I had finished with my dentist visit which was a typical bloody mess. I floss, brush and rinse, but every time I return it is like I have been sucking on bacteria infested suckers with extra plaque-builders since the last visit. As you can imagine I get a little tense before, during and after my visits. My dentist has resorted to prescribing me Valium in anticipation of each visit. However, I haven’t filled it because aren’t those for 1983 housewives who drink 4 bottles of red wine by 2pm?
It was no different this afternoon as she prodded, poked, scraped (sonically and by hand), and flossed. By the end I was sore as hell and my dentist urged me to drink plenty of whisky to ease the pain. I’m sure this is totally approved by the American Dental Association (circa 1884?). As I was gathering my free goodies, a woman in the waiting area said “Awesome shirt!” I turned to say thank you and recognized a crown of hair that had just gone past the peach fuzz stage.
I had worn my Race for The Cure shirt today out of pride for running yesterday and it was the hip thing to do at work. I didn’t think it mattered much outside of that, but it mattered to this woman. I smiled and said “I had a great time, did you?” “Yes!” She replied with a wide smile and ebullience that is rare. I stepped out of the office thinking that I had not expected anything today from wearing this shirt, but it made my day. And do you know that I rarely, if ever, think that something made my day when it comes to total strangers? My day is made often by the one’s I love, but strangers? Who gets that? I hope that I made her day in some small way as she made mine.

I didn’t get very far into this, but I really, really need you to fill that valium prescription. and then give it to me. for reals. best drug ever. next to morphine, of course.
I probably should’ve read the whole post before commenting, so that I got the whole point of this very heart-warming story, instead of just asking you to do an illegal drug deal.
That is pretty awesome, though.
(PS – I would drink 2 bottles of wine by 4 if if would help.)
Is it illegal to trade prescription drugs for pie? If that’s wrong I don’t want to be right.
Awww… you just made my day! It is easy to wallow in our own personal pain, no matter how big or small. But then when you are faced with or reminded of someone else’s really hard battle, it brings us all down to Earth again. Thanks!
And I was just having my own little pitty party that it is only Tuesday and I really need a vacation!
Glad to hear I made your day!
Your dentist sounds like the coolest dentist ever. Referral, please! Also, very cool story about the shirt.
